For those who grew up in the 70s as I did, this new novel tells stories in road trip fashion, reminiscent to 1971 when famed songwriter/poet Jim Morrison reportedly died. Morrison remains one of the most popular and influential singers/writers in rock history.
The book is set in 2009 when Rossberg discovers and befriends a quiet stranger living in a roadhouse apartment. Curiosity leads him to find out more about this man as a friendship develops and the two embark on adventures together. Over time, Rossberg woders if the urban legend about Jim Morrison being alive could be true, and if his new mysterious friend could be the rock legend.
This riveting read digs deep beyond the artificial techno-world of television and computers to our vast surroundings here in Montana and the great mysteries that may be unearthed if we let ourselves discover them. The book is reminiscent of stories by the late great Hunter S. Thompson, which blurred the distinctions between writer and subject, fiction and nonfiction. Fans of the Doors and Jim Morrison, will clearly relate to the parallels between the two characters. Montanans will enjoy the slices of our local history weaved throughout the pages.
The use of poetry in this novel, gives credence to the character in true Morrison form as the underlying plot unveils. Rossberg engages the reader from the start by retelling tales of the famous and never forgotten big stack as well as geographical sites and settings unique to those of us fortunate to live here, and who have socialized in the area between Great Falls and Wolf Creek. As the story unfolds, it flirts with dangerous compelling situations which seem all too real!
